1. Can I add flavour to the coffee?

Yes, flavours can be added to any of the coffees. A medium roast is best for flavoured coffees. Currently there are 6 flavours to choose from, Irish Cream, Chocolate, Cappuccino, Vanilla, Walnut and Cognac Truffle. There will be other flavours added throughout the year and these will be displayed in the coffee of the month section. All the flavours are natural, have no artificial sweetners, no fats, no sugar, in fact no artificial ingredients at all.

2. Are all the coffee's available in decaf?

No. Currently we have only Colombian decaf coffee available although this may change and additional ones added. When new decaf coffees are available they will be shown on the website.

3. I like strong coffee but not the bitterness you often get. How do I avoid that?

If your coffee tastes bitter it may be due to one of the following common brewing mistakes. Either you have added too little coffee or it is ground too finely or due to too long a brewing cycle. 4. How secure is the ordering system?

Your order and payment are to totally secure. Payments are made using Worldpay via a secured 128bit encrypted SSL technology that encrypts all information. Worldpay is an industry leader for on-line transactions and at no time does jj's Roasted Beans see your credit card details. 5. Is postage and packaging included in the price?

Yes, postage and packaging to UK mainland addresses is included in the price of your coffee.

6. How long will the coffee stay fresh for?

Coffee will stay fresh for about 2 months if kept in a freezer. Keep the bag the coffee came in sealed when not in use.

7. What is fair-trade coffee?

Fair-trade coffees are produced by democratically run cooperatives whose members have been guaranteed a 'fair' price for their coffees based on an internationally determined formula. Some of the extra money paid by the consumer for the fair-trade coffee is used to promote the fair-trade principle in consuming countries, but most of the premium reaches the farmers directly. Buying a fair-trade coffee is probably the concerned coffee drinker's most impeccably progressive choice.

8. What grind should I use and is it important?

The correct grind for the method you use to brew your coffee is very important. The following is an indication as to what grind should be used for which method of brewing.

  • Whole roasted beans - for customer who have their own grinding machine
  • Very fine - for use in expresso type machine
  • Fine - for use in filter machines
  • Medium - for use in Cafetieres
  • Course - for use in Perculators

9. What are the different roast styles available?

There are three roast styles that are available, Light, Medium and Dark. A light roast usually has a pronounced acidity associated with it as well as a medium body. The light roast is only suitable for certain origin coffees. The medium roast is the traditional roast that usually brings the best out in origin coffees. Finally, a dark roast produces a fuller bodied coffee with some bittersweet notes.
